OK... I have to admit it up front. When the plane landed at the Manihi Airport I started to wonder
if we had made a mistake. I thought the Huahine Airport was small but this was ridiculous! Of course, there are only two hotels on the island…
and the view on the way in was unusual - there is no island in the lagoon!
Manihi is a coral atoll surrounding a volcanic island that sank about 25 million years ago. It is nothing like Tahiti or
Bora Bora. And it is definitely worth visiting.
The Manihi Pearl Beach exceeded all our expectations. One tour book thought so highly of it that it's the resort on the
cover. We have no doubt that the author is correct in asserting that its rooms are the most beautiful in Polynesia.
The view from our glass-topped coffee table was beyond compare. For more, click on the fish.
The location an amenities were top notch. Below, Arnie and Mom enjoy a dip in the saltwater pool next to the
bar.
One of the features of the dining room was a carved canoe. Arnie hoped for a ride...
Room service was by outrigger canoe..
One of the many reasons we enjoyed it was Wendy Zvara - the most valuable gem in the Manihi Pearl Dream Shop!
The major industry of Manihi is not tourism - it's growing black pearls. Click on Wendy or the Black Pearls button for more info.
Did I mention that this was our favorite spot in Polynesia?
Wendy not only helped Arnie pick out his necklace, she also took us on a tour of a black pearl farm.
